Supersand Eagles Dethroned As Copa Lagos Kings

Supersand Eagles’ dominance of the Copa Lagos Beach Soccer Tournament came to abrupt end at the weekend as Ivory Coast claimed the 2014 edition in style.

Nigeria’s 5-4 defeat of Senegal in the last game of the 2014 edition yesterday was not enough to upturn the sweet victory of the Ivorian over the host country by the same margin on Saturday. Even the permutation that Ghana will help Nigeria defeat the Ivorians to enable the Supersand Eagles stroll to a fourth title failed to materialize. The Ghanaians lost the game to crown the Elephants as the new champions.

With the victory, Ivory Coast won the title and the $10,000 dollars prize money at stake while Supersand Eagles won the silver and $7,500 dollars. Senegal was third and got consolatory $5,000 for the bronze.

The tournament which kicked-off on Friday at the Eko Atlantic Beach Soccer Stadium featured the beach soccer teams of Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal and Nigeria. The beach soccer teams of Barcelona Football Club of Spain, Enyimba Football Club, Stationery Stores Football Club and Pepsi Academy all of Nigeria were part of the three-day soccer fiesta on the water front of the Lagos Bar Beach.
