We have no response to NASS impeachment threat- FG
The federal governemnt says it does not have a response to the impeachment threat issued against President Muhammadu Buhari.
Addressing state house correspondents after Wednesday’s federal executive council meeting in Abuja, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Mallam Shehu Garba said he has nothing to say concerning the twelve point ultimatum issued by a joint session of the National Assembly.
Mallam Garba Shehu's refused to grant a response barely twenty-four hours after the senate and house of representatives urged the president to among other things provide security in the country or face impeachment.
Though he declined to comment on the matter, he responded ‘’no, nothing’’ to a question demanding government’s response to the legislature’s demands.
On the sidelines of the council’s meeting were approvals for the ministries of finance, budget and national planning as well as power, works and housing.
Minister of finance Kemi Adeosun told journalists that the council approved N1.6 billion for the purchase of sixty-eight operational vehicles for the Nigerian Customs to effectively patrol the borders of the country, enhance their bid to suppress smuggling and increase revenue collection.
She said the council also approved the Report of the National Tax Policy (NTP) Implementation Committee on Tax Laws Reform for a robust tax system that would promote investment and improve revenue for sustainable national development.
Minister of state for budget and national planning, Zainab Ahmed also disclosed that about eight thousand four hundred Nigerians have benefitted from the N-POWER programme of the government.
Ministry of power, works and housing also got approval for the purchase of monitoring vehicles at the rate of 499 million naira, while the ministry of education got approval for the construction and furnishing of a three-story faculty building for the national open university at the rate of N711 million.
