From Prison to Corrections: Inmates Display Skills
The Nigerian Correctional Service FCT Command has partnered with MO Suleiman Next Hyt outreach to train female inmates in various skills acquisition programs. The training, which took place at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Suleja, aimed to encourage talents and skills among the inmates.
The skills training included knitting, hair making, shoe making, beads making, bag making, liquid soaps, and disinfectants production. In her remark, Mrs. Maryam Suleiman stated that her drive to support the inmates was borne out of passion and the fact that everyone deserves a second chance adding that she was committed to making a difference and her incarceration would not deter her.
The Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Christopher Peter Jen, expressed delight at such a wonderful move and encouraged Mrs. Maryam Omayoza Suleiman to continue her good work. He also encouraged others to support the initiative. The Officer in Charge of MSCC Suleja, Assistant Controller, Ibrahim Suleman, appreciated the Controller for his stewardship in the command and also extended his appreciation to the inmates for cooperating and abiding by the laid-down rules in the custodial centre.
The event featured a display of products made by inmates, showcasing their skills in knitting, hair making, shoe making, beads making, bag making, and other areas. There was also an interactive session and debates, which provided a platform for the inmates to share their experiences and ideas. The Nigerian Correctional Service FCT Command restated its Commitment to providing a conducive environment for the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.
