Sen. Stephen Odey Not Sacked By Supreme Court - Group

An Abuja-based group has dismissed media reports on the purported sack of Cross-River North Senator, Steve Odey, insisting the Supreme Court lacks jurisdiction to do so.

Galaxy's Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that the Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness at a media briefing in Abuja Monday said Nigeria's Apex Court has not declared vacant the seat of the Federal Lawmaker.

Hon. Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe who is contesting for the PDP Senatorial slot along with Senator Odey, the group insists never took part in the Senatorial by-election held on 5 December 2020.

The group faulted the stance of Hon. Jarigbe, describing his action, in connivance with an unnamed South-South governor as one borne out of desperation.

The Supreme Court had struck out an appeal Senator Stephen Odey filed to be declared the authentic candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the Senatorial by-elections.

This comes after an Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal had voided his candidacy.

Three Justices on the seven-man panel that heard the matter, upheld Odey’s case, while four others held that the appeal was legally defective, and accordingly struck it out.
