Senate Committee Slams NNPC, Rejects ₦210 Trillion Expenditure Claims
The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has expressed dissatisfaction with the NNPC’s financial submissions noting that it raised serious red flags, particularly the claims of ₦103 trillion in accrued expenses and ₦107 trillion in receivables, totaling ₦210 trillion between 2017 and 2023.
The Chairman Chairman of the Committee, Senator Aliyu Wadada while presenting the position of the Committee on the financial submission of the Government Agency said the Committee was duty bound to reject the submission by the NNPC.
He further questioned how NNPC could pay ₦103 trillion in cash calls to joint venture partners in 2023 alone, despite generating only ₦24 trillion in crude revenue between 2017 and 2022.
Wadada further warned that any future absence of NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) before the committee would no longer be tolerated.
Other members of the committee who spoke at the session accused the NNPC of playing to the gallery noting that the committee will continue to discharge its responsibilities as expected.
They posited that the present administration, under President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, needs the cooperation of all citizens saying the committee will do everything within the law to ensure public funds are judiciously used.
