Reps: Bill for the Creation of Ethiope State Passes Second Reading

The House of Representatives has passed for second reading a bill seeking to amend the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) to create a new Ethiope State. The sponsor of the bill, Hon. Benedict Etanabene, led the debate on the floor of the House. The House also passed for second reading a bill to amend the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, No. 19, 2019, to establish a Trust Fund for the reformation and rehabilitation of inmates, aimed at promoting their successful reintegration into society after discharge. The bill, (HB. 2374), was sponsored by Hon. Olusola Fatoba, who led the debate on the floor of the House.
In another development, the green chamber stepped down a senate bill for an Act to Amend the Federal Orthopaedic Hospital Management Act, to Establish Federal Orthopaedic Hospital, Obokun, Osun State including other bills seeking concurrence from the House.
This was unanimously adopted by all members at plenary who registered displeasure on the non challant actions of the red chamber towards legislations seeking its concurrence from the green chamber. The House resolved to interface with the leadership of the senate with the view to address the matter.
