Reps Ask FG to Increase Military Presence In Yobe State

The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to increase military presence and patrols in Yobe State following recent ISWAP attacks. This followed a motion by Hon. Khadijat Buka highlighting the April 18, 2025 attack on Ngurbuwa Village, which claimed the lives of two soldiers and several vigilantes, displaced residents, and destroyed a key bridge.
Another attack occurred on May 3, 2025, in Buni Yadi, days after a regional security meeting. The House urged the Ministry of Defence, security agencies, NEMA, NEDC, and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to strengthen security and provide urgent relief to affected communities.The House of Representatives has also directed the Inspector-General of Police, DSS, and NSA to urgently investigate the killing of 13 Ebonyi State indigenes in Ogboji community, Orumba South LGA of Anambra State.
This followed a motion of public importance by Hon. Igariwey Enwo, who described the 30th June 2025 attack, which happened during the victims’ monthly town union meeting as a targeted and premeditated act.The House expressed concern that no arrests have been made and warned that continued inaction could trigger retaliatory violence and threaten regional peace.The House has urged the Federal Government to urgently improve flood control infrastructure and disaster response in vulnerable areas.
This followed a motion by Hon. Joshua Gana, noting the devastating floods that struck Niger and Kwara States in late May 2025, killing over 500 people, leaving 600 missing, injuring 200 others, and destroying more than 4,000 homes.
