Bill Banning Public Servants From Patronizing Private Schools Passes First Reading

The House of Representatives has passed for first reading, a bill that seeks to ban public servants and their families from using private schools and healthcare services.

Sponsored by Hon. Amobi Ogah, the bill aims to improve public institutions by compelling government officials to use them.

Addressing journalists after plenary, Ogah said the decline in public services is due to leaders favoring private and foreign options.

He noted that Nigerians spend over $1.6 billion yearly on medical tourism, far exceeding the country’s health budget. The bill, he said, would help restore confidence in public education and healthcare.
