Nigeria Police foil Christmas Crime, arrest 23 suspects
In a concerted effort to ensure public safety during the Christmas celebrations, the Nigeria Police Force arrested 23 individuals, including suspected armed robbers, cultists, and a kidnapper, while recovering various dangerous weapons.
This operation, carried out under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, spanned several states and targeted criminal activities threatening the festive cheer.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi in a statement highlighted the success of the operations and the proactive measures taken to maintain security.
According to the statement, On Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, at about 1 a.m., police operatives attached to the Lagos State Command responded to a distress call from the Safejo area of Amukoko, Lagos and arrested some armed men with dangerous weapons terrorizing residents and fun seekers.
It added that Later that same day, at about 8 p.m., police operatives attached to the Saminaka Division of the Kaduna State Command apprehended Sule Muhammad, a 25-year-old male, linked to multiple kidnappings in the area. A fabricated AK-47 rifle was recovered from the suspect.
Police operations during the festive period also resulted in notable arrests across Delta, Ogun, Katsina, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Imo. These efforts reflect the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring that citizens enjoy a peaceful and secure festive season.
The IGP praised police officers for their vigilance and dedication to public safety during the festive season.
