Infrastructure: CNG Faults FG's Road Contact Approval
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has rejected the road contract approvals issued by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on November 6, 2025, describing the allocations as a deliberate marginalization of Northern Nigeria.
The Group said its review of figures published in national newspapers showed that out of ₦1.047 trillion approved for road projects, 93 per cent went to Southern states, with the South-West receiving the largest share, while the entire North got only seven per cent.
In a statement by its National Coordinator, Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, CNG said the distribution amounted to economic sabotage, noting that the North despite its vast landmass, extensive road network, large population and heavy insecurity burden was effectively sidelined.
It faulted the exclusion of major Northern highways from the approved projects and criticised Northern political office holders for not challenging the imbalance.
The Group demanded a review of the allocations, a framework ensuring equitable distribution of infrastructure funds, a state of emergency on long-abandoned Northern roads and greater transparency in contract approvals, warning that continued regional imbalance would have serious national consequences.
