Corona Virus: Experts task Toxicologists to Rise up the Challenges.

As the scourge of coronavirus continues to ravage some countries, Toxicologists and other stakeholders in Nigeria have been advised to rise up to the challenges the disease pose to human lives.

Prof. Momoh Yakubu from Texas Southern University and other speakers at a forum of Nigeria Toxicologists held at the University of Ibadan stated that the is the time for Nigerian scientists to proffer solutions to diseases affecting human lives.

Speaking on the topic, the science of toxicology, the past, the present and the future, a professor of Pharmacology and Environmental Toxicology, Texas Southern University, Prof. Momoh Yakubu stated that Africa and Nigeria especially is blessed with young people who have made an impact and eager to learn.

He stated that it is high time for Toxicologists and other scientists to begin to answer questions on issues relating to human lives most importantly with the recent outbreak of Corona Virus adding that they must position themselves to tackle problems relating to obesity, cancer, diabetic and other diseases that Nigerians are not used to.

Other speakers at the gathering stressed the need for the practitioners to make their impact felt adding the roles of toxicologists in human existence cannot be overemphasized.

On her part, Prof. Aina Adeogun of the Department of Zoology, University of Ibadan says Scientists in Nigeria need to rise up and answer questions relating to national problems.
