Ex-Convict,Bode George, 5 Others Ask Court To Set Aside Conviction.

Former Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) and ex-convict, Chief Olabode George has approached the Supreme Court, asking it to set aside the decision of the court of appeal, which affirmed the judgment of a Lagos State High Court that convicted him to Two years imprisonment for contracts splitting and inflation in 2009.

Chief George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alongside five others were convicted and have since served their Two year jail term, but the six ex-convicts still believe justice was miscarried and prayed the court to declare them innocent of the crime they were convicted of.

Other ex-convicts in the matter include Arc. Aminu Dabo, Capt. O. Abidoye, Alh. Abdullahi Aminu Tafida, Zanna Maideribi and Engr. Sule Aliyu as 2nd to 6th appellants respectively.

When the matter came up for hearing on Thursday in Abuja, the six ex-convicts, through their respective lawyers, asked the Justice Tanko Mohammed-led 5-man penal of the supreme court justices to grant them extension of time within which to file and regularize their appeals, haven filed same out of time.

The court granted the applications and adjourned the matter to September 26, 2013 to allow parties time to file and  consolidate the six different appeals, as well as hear the appeal.
