$620,000 Bribe: Farouk Lawan Remanded In Prison

A High court of the Federal Capital Territory, on Friday remanded the disgraced chairman of the House of Representative's Adhoc committee on Fuel Subsidy Payment, Hon. Faruk Lawan and Secretary of the committee, Mr. Boniface Emenalo, in prison custody till Friday February 8 when it will rule on their bail application.

Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi reserved ruling on the bail application file by counsel to Faruk and Emenalo, Chief Rickey Tafa (SAN), on the grounds that the application was filed today 1st Febraury 2013 and reserved both the court and prosecution which raised opposition, requiring the court's careful considerations.

His lawyer,Rickey Tarfa has this to say on the court ruling.                             

Hon. Faruk Lawan and Mr. Boniface Emenalo, an Assistant Director with the National Assembly Service Commission were arraigned by the Police on a Seven count charge of corruptly soliciting and collecting $3 million from Mr. Femi Otedola for themselves with the aim of removing his company, Zenon Oil and Gas from the list of indicted oil marketers in the infamous fuel subsidy scam.

Opposing the application, prosecution counsel, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), said the nature of the offence is likely to be committed by the accused again if granted bail by virtue of their continuously being members of committees in the House of Representatives.                              

The charge includes the $620,000,000 already collected from Mr. Otedola with the intention to and the actual removal of his company, Zenon Oil and Gas from the list of indicted companies on the floor of the house at plenary.
