Court Remands Four Dismissed E-Crack Officers To Prison

The Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded four officers of Eagle crack unit of mile one police station to Port Harcourt correctional prison for the death of late Chima Ikwunado and four others who are mechanic at Ikokwu spare part area, popularly called Ikokwu 5.  

The Officers who have been dismissed from the police after their room orderly trial are facing a seven-count charge ranging from murder,  torture,  attempted murder and assault pleaded not guilty to the seven-count charge.

According to report gathered, the suspects on the 19th of December through 29 December 2019, arrested the victims to Eagle crack cell unit of mile one police station, tortured and murdered one Chima Ikwunado, also hanged,  beat, injured and tortured Ifeanyi  Onyekwere,  Ogbonna Victor,  Ifeanyi Osuji and Osaze  Friday.

The charges which are punishable under section 324, 319, 320, 335, and 351 of the criminal code, cap 37. Vol 11, laws of the Rivers state of Nigeria 1999.

The Chief magistrate PROMISE IROANYA in his ruling said the court lack jurisdiction for count one to three which is a capital offence adding that he had jurisdictions for count 4 to 7.

He also ruled that the case file be remitted to the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice and remanded the suspect to correctional prison.

Counsels to the defendant express the position of the court and said they would await the advice of the DPP.

The Chief magistrate adjourned the case to the 18th of September for advice for legal advice.
