EKITI WORKERS STRIKE TAKES TOLL ON SCHOOL RESUMPTION

The ongoing workers strike in Ekiti has taken its toll on the resumption of Public Schools in the state. Public School teachers who were suppose to resume for the 2014/2015 academic session on Wednesday, joined the strike that began a week ago, following the failure of the state government to pay their two months salaries and allowances. Though, Private schools in the state have resumed, the strike has kept the gates of all Public schools shut, as pupils and students do not know when they would resume. Speaking with Galaxy news on the effect of the strike on school resumption the State chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Kayode Akosile said the students must have forgotten all they were taught at this time and this is further destroying the standard of Eductaion in the state. One of the parent who spoke lamented what he described as the delay in the syllabus of the children particularly those writing the WAEC next year. They called on the state government to attend to the demands of workers so that the teachers can get back to the classroom. Meanwhile, private schools in the state have resumed academic session for 2014/2015. A teacher and pupil who spoke with newsmen had these to say.
