Victims of Bayelsa Police Shooting Recounts Ordeal

Two victims of Tuesday evening's shooting by a policeman from the Bayelsa state police command in Yenagoa and their family members have recounted how the policeman shot them and escaped from the scene as they call for justice.

The victims which include a 17-yr-old girl and a woman were shot at the popular Tombia roundabout in Yenagoa by the policeman who accused them of causing traffic gridlock, thereby making their patrol van spend hours in traffic.

Speaking from her hospital bed, the victim said she was shot on her leg as her daughter and husband call for justice.

On his part, the father of the 17-yr-old girl called on the Bayelsa state government to give his daughter proper treatment as the doctor treating the patients expressed hope over them walking again.

The Bayelsa police commissioner Mike Okoli had also issued a statement, saying the policeman who shot the victims have been arrested and will face disciplinary actions.
