PDP Criticizes FG Over School Kidnappings Warns Against Shutting Down Schools
The People’s Democratic Party has criticized the Federal Government for its response to recent school kidnappings, warning that shutting down schools amounts to giving in to terrorists.
While addressing Journalists at a press conference, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Ini Ememobong, said that more than 25 students were abducted in Kebbi State and over 350 students and staff kidnapped in Niger and Kaduna States within one week.
He said the attacks have heightened fear across communities while government action has been slow and uncoordinated.
Ememobong faulted state governments that have closed schools and cautioned the Federal Government against considering the same measure.
He said doing so would worsen the education crisis in northern Nigeria, where most of the country’s out-of-school children live.
The PDP called for a comprehensive security plan and full implementation of the National Policy on Safety and Security in Schools. It also urged President Tinubu to take more decisive action, insisting that protecting lives and a remains the government’s primary responsibility.
