Senate Sets Up ADHOC Committee, Invites NDLEA

The Senate has set up an adhoc Committee to investigate the drug allegation levels against the Deputy leader of the Senate, Senator Oyelola Ashiru, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The Media has been awash in the last 48 hours with allegations and counter allegations between the Ndlea and the Leader of the Deputy leader of the Senate, Senator Oyelola Ashiru, on the matter. Galaxy Television reports that the Senate at its resumes plenary on Tuesday was worried by the development which forced the house into an executive session which lasted for almost two hours.

At the end of the session, the Senate President, Godwill Akpabio, expressed the concerns and reservations of the senators on the issues and thereby invited Senator Ashiru to present the matter to the House. Senator Ashiru while presenting his side of the story accused the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency of playing to the gallery saying the allegations against him was malicious and has far reaching implications on his person.

Speaking in the same vein, Akpabio, absolved the Deputy leader of the Senate of all the allegations against him by NDLEA as malicious. The Senate therefore decided to set up an adhoc Committee and chaired by Senator Eyinaya Abaribe, to look into the matter and invite the Ndlea for interrogation. The Committee has been given one week to submit its report.
