Reps Pass for Second Reading Bill to Establish Commission for Technology Transfer, Acquisition, Others
The House of Representatives has passed the second reading of a Bill to establish the National Commission for Technology Transfer, Acquisition, and Promotion to monitor the inflow of foreign products and technology into Nigeria.
Sponsor of the Bill Clement Jimbo, stated that the Bill aims to create jobs, process raw materials into finished goods, increase GDP, and facilitate technology transfer. Addressing journalists after the plenary, Jimbo emphasized its focus on adding value to Nigeria’s solid mineral exploration, particularly lithium, a key component in battery production.
Jimbo highlighted that over 200 million cell phones, 500,000 solar systems, and millions of cars, laptops, and other electronic devices are in use in Nigeria, all requiring batteries made with solid minerals. He urged speedy passage of the Bill, noting it has no financial implications and will improve Nigerians' quality of life.
