REPS Approve N1.132trn as Custom 2025 Budget

The House of Representatives has approved the total sum of ₦1.132 trillion for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for the 2025 fiscal year. The approval followed the consideration of a report by the Committee on Customs and Excise, presented by its chairman, Hon. Leke Abejide, during the Committee of Supply session. Key highlights include, ₦1.070 trillion projected revenue (4% FOB), ₦33.007 billion from 2% imports VAT, ₦29.053 billion for ongoing capital projects, ₦247.156 billion for personnel costs, and ₦239.974 billion for overhead and ₦645.418 billion for capital costs

The House urged NCS to stop collecting illegal CISS and 7% Cost of Collection fees, adhere to the legal 4% FOB income, improve CSR in border areas, and reintroduce excise on telecom services and single-use plastics. The minority leader hon Kingsley Chinda raised concerns, about the recommendations while Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka backed the recommendations, encouraging the committee to achieve its set objectives.

The House of Representatives also extended the implementation timeline for the capital components of the 2024 national budget from June 30 to December 31, 2025. The resolution followed the presentation of the 2024 Appropriation Act Amendment bill seeking to extend the implementation period. Speaker of the House, Hon Abbas Tajudeen, sat in chair at the committee of supply when the bill was considered and approved.

 

The House also passed the bill seeking to amend the Nigeria Police Trust Fund Act for third reading. The bill seeks to increase the duration of the Trust Fund for continued training, provision of security equipment and enhance the skills of the personnel of the Nigeria Police. The act mandates the board of trustees to submit an estimate of its income and expenditure to the minister not later than 30th June of every year.
