FG launches #110 Intervention Fund for Medical Schools

In a bid to curb exodus of Healthcare Professionals from Nigeria, the Federal Government has launched a N110 billion intervention fund to upgrade infrastructure in key medical schools across the country. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made the disclosure on Tuesday while inaugurating the Ministerial Monitoring Committee on TETFund High Impact Intervention Projects in Abuja.

 

According to Alausa, N70 billion will be used to rehabilitate medical schools to international standards, while N15 billion is allocated for new student hostels while Seventy six institutions will also receive advanced medical simulation centres. On her part, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwuaiba Ahmad, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving medical education infrastructure, noting that many institutions have faced significant challenges in recent years. 

 

She said through TETFund’s intervention, the government is working to rehabilitate and upgrade medical schools nationwide, ensuring future healthcare professionals are trained in modern, globally competitive environments. Chairman of the TETFund Board of Trustees, Mansari Aminu called for sustained investment over five years to ensure impactful results, urging university administrators to prioritize national interests. 

 

Earlier, the  TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono described the intervention as important and timely, aimed at improving facilities to better train future healthcare professionals.The Chairman of the newly inaugurated committee, Prof sulieman Alabi pledged to deliver on its mandate with diligence, transparency and patriotism.
