Minister of Women Affairs Restates Commitment to the Welfare of the Vulnerable
The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to supporting vulnerable widows and affected market women through economic empowerment programs, policy support, and capacity-building initiatives.
Speaking at an Early Christmas Giveaway and Educational Support Initiative in Abuja, organized by the When in Need Foundation (WIN), the Minister, represented by Irene Ewa-Bua, emphasized the ministry’s role as the apex national gender machinery.
She restated her mandate to develop programs and projects aimed at empowering women and children. The event provided assistance to 370 widows and 20 students with educational scholarships, including those affected by a recent market fire in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The founder of WIN, Dr. Chetachi Ecton, also announced a special scholarship for a young widow aspiring to return to school to fulfill her dreams. Dr. Ecton encouraged widows not to let their circumstances hold them back, urging them to confront challenges with determination.
Noah Emmanuel, National President of the Non-Governmental Association for Literacy Support Services (NOGALSS), called for collaborative efforts from well-meaning Nigerians to support the vulnerable.
He expressed concern over the lack of commitment from those with the means to assist the less fortunate. The event highlighted the importance of collective action in improving the lives of the marginalized and fostering hope among the vulnerable.
