Kidnappings: NCC says they are not a security agency
In view of the spate of kidnappings across the country and the collection of ransom via the usage of mobile phones, the executive chairman of the National Communication Commission, NCC, Umar Danbatta while responding to questions from galaxy TV correspondent in Kano on the subject matter said the NCC should not be held responsible for the successful use of mobile phones to perpetrate crimes because they are not a security agency.
Danbatta went ahead to list out some of the security agencies with the statutory powers to tackle crimes and criminality which include kidnappings that are being perpetrated through the use of mobile phones.
He added that the NCC as a regulatory body is always available to provide the necessary assistance that the security agencies may require from them.
The continued use of mobile phones to perpetrate crimes despite SIM card registrations has surprised Nigerians.
