Imo govt promises to settle all pensioners
The Imo State Government says it has commenced the processes of ensuring monthly payment of pensioners in the state.
This was made known by governor Emeka Ihedioha while inspecting the pension team on pension verification during an interactive session with journalists in Owerri the state capital.
The governor made it clear that the previous administration never did anything meaningful to guarantee effective payment of pensioners as all the files and necessary documents to this effect were dumped like a refuse bin in a hall.
Imo state council of elders led by Mr Pascal Dozie having visited the scene express gratitude to the governor for deeming it good to wipe away the cries of pensioners in the state.
About 13,513 out of the estimated 30,000 files had so far been treated. He noted that the team commenced work on July 22, 2019.
According to him, all the pension files since the state was created in 1976 are being treated.
The ongoing sorting would see to verification and biometric capturing. The exercise, when completed will ensure regular payment of pensions and at the same time discourage the ills of ghost payments.
