The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the implementation of a revised training curriculum for police recruits, marking a significant step towards enhancing the professionalism and operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.

 

According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the new curriculum is designed to equip recruits with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of policing in Nigeria. It also ensures they carry out their duties in accordance with international best practices.

 

The revised curriculum introduces a comprehensive range of topics, including the Police Act 2020, which familiarizes recruits with the legal framework governing police operations. 

 

Other key subjects include the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy, to promote proper social media conduct; Computer Studies; Gender Mainstreaming and Education; Sex Education; Anti-Corruption Laws; Training on Harassment and Gender-Based Crimes; the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition Act; Election Security (Electoral Act 2022) among others .

 

The statement emphasized that this revised curriculum aligns with the IGP's commitment to intellectual and capacity building within the Nigeria Police Force.

 

By addressing critical training areas, the IGP aims to improve the performance, professionalism, and community-oriented approach of new recruits, ensuring they are well-prepared to fulfill their responsibilities within the bounds of the law.

 

The Nigeria Police Force restated its  committed to continuous improvement and the professional development of its officers, ensuring they are well-trained and equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of modern policing.
