FG Plans Digitization Of Cattle Routes, Dam Inventories
The Minister of Livestock Development Idi Maiha says the Federal Government plans to digitize grazing reserves, cattle routes, and dam inventories to enhance livestock development and address farmer-herder conflicts.
He said the initiative aims to improve the livestock value chain and foster economic growth.
Maiha, who stated this during a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Livestock Development, highlighted that a comprehensive assessment of Nigeria’s grazing reserves and routes has been conducted, with plans to establish new routes away from urban areas.
He stated that the sector could contribute ₦33 trillion to the economy if fully developed while creating more jobs and attracting investments in ranching and dairy farming.
The minister also urged state governments to create Ministries of Livestock to facilitate collaboration with the federal government.
Chairman of the House Committee on Livestock Development, Raji Olawale, expressed support for the initiative, reaffirming the Committee’s commitment to ensuring the success of the administration’s livestock policies.
