EndSARS: Ministers Charges FG on Restoration of Damaged Facilities in Lagos State

Southwest ministers have urged the federal government to support Lagos State to restore damaged facilities especially those related to the maintenance of law and order and the administration of justice during the EndSARS protests.

Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola made the call while intimating state house correspondents with his briefing of the federal executive council on their tour to Lagos state in the wake of the EndSARS protests that caused serial damages in Lagos.

He said the ministers also urged federal government to consider short to medium term support to small and medium businesses who were affected by the looting and arson that took place in Lagos. 

Their visit to the centre of excellence was borne out of the Presidential directive for ministers in his cabinet to visit their states with the view to liaising with their governors to ascertain the level of damages caused by the #EndSARS protests that engulfed the country recently.

Having concluded their assignement particularly in Lagos, the ministers briefed the president and members of council at Wednesday’s meeting making far reaching recommendations that will douse tensions and maintain peace. 

Works and Housing Minister, Babtunde Fashola who spoke on behalf of the ministers said they visited flash point, took inventories of the level of damages urging the council to among other things ensure a thorough investigation of the incedent particularly the october 20th shooting allegedly carried out by the Nigerian Army for public consumption.

The minister also wants the government to support low income businesses affected by the incident through Central Bank’s Intervention Mechanism under the COVID-19 funding or any other related funding mechanism

Talking about his ministry’s presentation at the council meeting Mr. Babatunde Fashola anounced council’s approval of a total of one hundred and five billion naira as amount for the completion of the fifty-two kilometer oyo/ogbomosho highway which is part of the ilorin/ibadan one hundred and fourty five kilomemter highway.

According to the minister, the total sum amount was 47.5 billion Naira but was increased for the adjustment in the scope of work.

Ministry of the FCT, also got approval for the award of contract for the full scope development of Arterial Road, from Northern Parkway, Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Way to the Northern Express Way within the Federal Capital City, Abuja. 

FCT minister, Mohammed Bello said the contract is awarded at the sum of 30.7 billion Naira.

Bello said the project area is within Phase II of the FCC serving as boundary road between the adjoining districts of Mabushi, Kado, Katampe and Jabi.

The contract has a completion period of 32 months.
