EFCC vows to activate all means to arrest and arraign Yaya Bello

The Absence of the former Governor of Kogi State, Yaya Bello, at the Federal High Court Abuja on Thursday stalled led to debate and hot argument between counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Counsel to the former Governor.

Based on this, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has vowed to activate all the necessary sections of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, including the use of the military to arrest and arraign Yaya Bello.

The anti graft commission had dragged Yaya Bello before Justice Emeka Nwite alongside three other suspects on 19 count charges bothering on money laundering to the time of #80,246,470,088.89.

Galaxy TV reports that the drama started when the Defence Counsel, Abdulwahab Muhammed said his client was not in court based on the fact that he has filled a process before a High Court in Kogi State and had restrained the anti-graft commission from arresting or arraigning his client.

He prayed the court to place a restraining order on the prosecution and stop them from misleading the court since the Prosecution team has appeal the ruling of the superior court.
Muhammed condemned what happened yesterday at the residence of Yaya Bello, when Efcc official barricaded his house with a warrant.

Responding to this, counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Kemi Pinhero faulted the claim saying the Kogi High Court only gave an experte order, which empowered the prosecution to seek the permission of the higher court to arrest and arraign the defendant.
He added that this commission has actually done this and queried why Yaya Bello was not in court today. This later degenerated to argument and counter arguments among the parties, a development that made Justice Nwite to urged the party not take the matter personal.

The Prosecution Counsel equally sought the leave of the court to serve the charge on the Defence Counsel having identified himself as the representative of the Defendant in court.

The Defense Counsel rejected the move while the Prosecution Counsel was allowed to move his application, which was replied to by the Defence Counsel.
Justice Nwite has however adjourned the matter till 23rd of April for his ruling and arraignment of Yaya Bello.
