EFCC Arraigns Yahaya Bello At FCT High Court
The immediate former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has arrived at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja for the hearing on alleged N110 billion fraud preferred against him.
He was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in April 2024. He reported at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday and was quizzed.
GALAXY TV reports that Bello was brought to court on Wednesday morning.
Since filing the charges against the former governor, the commission has not been able to bring him to court for arraignment.
The commission had initially filed 19 charges against Bello, along with his nephews Ali Bello, Dauda Suliman and Abdulsalam Hudu for money laundering offences amounting to over N80bn.
At the FCT High court the former Governor, alongside Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, are being prosecuted as 1st to 3rd defendants, respectively, in a fresh 110 billion Naira 16-count charge instituted against them by the EFCC.
On the last adjourned date the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, sought for adjournment on grounds that there is a 30 days window still running for the summons earlier issued by the court, urging the court for extension of time for Bello to appear before the court.
The other defendants Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, however have been given administrative bail by the EFCC, which they still enjoy.
Bello is also facing 80.2 Billion Naira Fraud Allegation charges before the federal high court which had been adjourned several times on instance of Bello’s absence in court.
As of the time of this report, Bello's Arraignment is ongoing at the FCT High Court.
