Benue University Student Protest
Staff and Students of the Benue State University were this mornings barred from entering the school premises for hours following a peaceful protest staged by aggrieved students.
The aggrieved students are demanding that Tyonor Smith, the President of Nigerian Union of Benue State Student (NUBESS) be relocated from the University Teaching Hospital to a Safe Place on account of security reasons.
The victim, Tyonor Smith, President of NUBES was shot last week Friday night by unidentified gunmen and was taken to a teaching hospital where he was resuscitated
Some of the student's leaders who spoke to newsmen at the school entrance gate in Makurdi, said they had to stage the protest because the school management was becoming complacent, stating that they cannot allow the injured students remain in the state hospital.
Meanwhile, the Dean of Student, Benue State University, Prof Joseph Jerker, reacting to the protest, said the institution took up the matter right from the day he was shot and the students are now in stable condition and have been relocated as demanded. He, however, said the protesters were acting on rumour without consulting before embarking on the protest.
