Benue OPWS nab 10 suspected kidnappers, gun fabricator

The onslaught against criminal elements bent on perpetrating heinous and violent crimes in Taraba, Nassarawa and Benue states will be sustained as the force commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Adeyemi Yekini has promised to continue to fish out those behind it and from their hideouts.


The force commander paraded 10 suspects involved in kidnapping, armed bandits, cattle rustlings and illegal gun manufacturing from Nassarawa and Benue states, including a notorious kidnapper who has been operating in Niger and Abuja but ran to Nassarawa states where he was arrested alongside other accomplices.

Major-Gen Yekini said this arrest is coming three weeks after he paraded 8 suspects on similar crimes but promised that OPWS will not relent in its quest to bring criminal elements to book particularly gun runners in the three states.

Some of the suspects paraded were the notorious kidnapper Seidu arrested in Nassarawa state while the other suspect was also arrested for illegal gun manufacturing in Buruku, local govt, area of Benue. During interview, the suspects who spoke in Hausa language all confessed to their crimes.

The force commander of Operation whirl stroke Major-Gen Adeyemi Yekini, however, said giving the alarming rate of weapons in circulation, they will continue to go after the source of the suppliers of this arms.

Meanwhile, items such as AK 47, pistols and locally fabricated guns including ammunition were recovered as well as equipment and tools for fabrication.
