Ekiti govt intensifies efforts against female genital mutilation

Traditional practitioners of female genital mutilation have submitted their instruments in Ikole Ekiti with a promise to desist from the practice that have ruined the lives of many.


The instruments were received by the First lady of Ekiti state Bisi Fayemi who advised women in the state to play active roles in the restoration agenda of the Kayode Fayemi administration.

Bisi Fayemi spoke in Omuo Ekiti on Monday during an empowerment programme for women in Ikole and Omuo local government area of Ekiti state.

She charged women to support the state government's efforts at reducing maternal and child mortality in the state.

She also urged Ekiti women to report all cases of gender-based violence and ensure the number of out of school children in Ekiti state.

The member representing Omuo Ekiti in the Ekiti state House of Assembly, Juwa Adegbuyi lauded the first lady and assured the state's assembly is working hard with the executives to solve other problems confronting residents of the constituency.

The social investment programme, according to the first lady will be held across the sixteen local government areas of Ekiti state.

Materials distributed included grinding machine, Sewing machine, raw food, gas cylinders and hair dryers.
