Reps Frown At Lack Of Attention To Livestock Sector By Govt

The House of Representatives Committee on Livestock Development has expressed disappointment over the lack of attention given to the livestock sector by previous administrations, despite its significant potential and economic contributions.

Speaking at the committee's inaugural meeting at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, Chairman Hon. Wale Raji noted that the establishment of the committee followed the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Raji highlighted Nigeria's struggle to meet its livestock consumption needs, resulting in substantial foreign exchange expenditure on imports for products that could be locally produced.

He described the sector as a key opportunity for transformation, emphasizing its potential to enhance food security, drive economic diversification, and create wealth.
