Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa's recent return to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has sparked interest among top Nigerian players to join the domestic league in the future. Musa, a former star for CSKA Moscow, has garnered attention for his performances with Kano Pillars, where he and fellow ex-Super Eagle Shehu Abdullahi made a free transfer this October.

Musa has made an impressive impact this season, scoring a brace against Sunshine Stars and contributing to a 4-3 win over Enugu Rangers, along with an assist in a 1-1 draw against Kwara United. He now boasts three goals and two assists in just four matches.

His success has inspired other prominent players, including former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye, who is close to joining Rivers United after starting training with them. Coach Finidi George noted Ideye’s determination, saying, “He has that hunger; we have seen Ahmed Musa, and if he’s willing to do that, I think we will welcome him.”

Current Super Eagles stars like Alex Iwobi, Maduka Okoye, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Frank Onyeka have also expressed their interest in playing in the NPFL. Iwobi stated he would join Musa at Kano Pillars, while Okoye revealed his preference for Enugu Rangers, which is linked to his family roots. Dele-Bashiru echoed similar sentiments about Kano Pillars, and Onyeka mentioned a desire to play for Enyimba, highlighting the unpredictability of player decisions.

Historically, several former Super Eagles players returned to the NPFL to conclude their careers, including Mobi Oparaku, Okechukwu Uche, and the late Rashidi Yekini. Their return has often rejuvenated the local league, providing invaluable experience.

Assistant coach of Yaba FC, Ahmed Omale, praised Musa's decision to return, emphasizing the positive impact it has on the league's reputation both locally and internationally. He noted that such moves can attract fans who admire these players from their peak years in Europe.

Idris Musa Adinoyi, captain of Dawaki Rangers FC, also commented on Musa’s return, saying it reflects the growth of the NPFL and enhances the quality of football in the league. He expressed excitement for Musa’s journey, recognizing the benefits of his vast experience for his teammates at Kano Pillars.
