NFF Denies Keshi Salary Slash

The Nigeria Football Federation has stepped up to deny rumors  and media reports  that it had slashed the salary of Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Stephen Keshi.

Chairman of the NFF Media and Publicity Committee, Chief Emeka Inyama said the false story was another concoction aimed at distracting the Federation at this very crucial period.

“The NFF has a contract with Coach Stephen Keshi, clearly-spelt-out, and we intend to respect that contract. That contract says Keshi is to get N5million as monthly salary. Nothing has changed. The NFF Executive Committee is composed of highly disciplined, diligent and
responsible Nigerians and we will not do anything that would have unsavoury consequences for any of the National Teams.

“We have talked about auditing of staff of the National Teams, especially backroom staff, as well as pegging of bonuses and allowances. We are constrained to do this as a result of our poor finances and we believe that Nigerians understand we have to do this in order to continue to fulfil our obligation of presenting the National Teams for international competitions and tournaments.”

Inyama, once more, charged the media to desist from hyperventilating issues that are not in the interest of the Nigeria game.

“While we cannot tell the media not to report football, since football is the king of sports and Nigerians are passionate about the game, there are more than 30 other sports and they should also get some mention.

“Over-reporting of football leads to temptation for rumours, half-truths and outright falsehood. Our people should report only what is correct about football.”
