Howard Webb Demoted To League One

English referee Howard Webb has suffered the ignominy of being axed from the Premier League list of match officials, and relegated to League One.

The World Cup final official has been punished for his error-prone performance in the Tyne Side derby at Newcastle, where he got key decisions wrong in Sunderland’s 3-0 humiliation of the host team and fierce city rivals.

Webb, English football’s leading official missed Yohann Gouffran’s horror challenge, disallowed a Papiss Cisse goal for Newcastle even though he was onside and waved away a penalty appeal.

The top official and his lines men and 4th official have been relegated TWO divisions below the Premier Leage and will take charge of Colchester’s low-key clash with Shrewsbury on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Chris Foy will referee QPR v Stoke at the weekend, despite failing to send Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero off for a horror two footed stamp on Chelsea’s David Luiz in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final.
