Carlos Molina Arrested, Fight With Charlo Still On For Saturday

IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6 KO’s) has been arrested in Las Vegas Nevada on an old warrant.

However, the 30-year-old Molina is expected to be released today, and will still be available to make his first defense of his IBF title this Saturday night against the unbeaten Jermall Charlo (17-0, 13 KO’s) on the undercard of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs.

Alfredo Angulo pay-per-view card on Showtime at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Molina isn’t a big name, so even if he isn’t able to fight this Saturday night on the Canelo-Angulo fight card, the card will likely do fine without him.

The undercard already has a number of decent fights such as the the super bantamweight match-up between WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz and Cristian Mijares, the lightweight showdown between Jorge Linares and Nihito Arakawa and the other lightweight clash on the card between Canelo’s brother Ricardo Alvarez vs. Sergio Thompson.

Those fights all will likely have more action than the Molina-Charlo fight, which figures to be a clinching affair for 12 rounds.

If Molina isn’t released in time for the fight, then the Alvarez vs. Thompson fight will be put in it’s place on the PPV portion of the broadcast. I don’t know about you, but I see that as a win-win situation for fight fans, because Sergio Thompson is a huge puncher and he’s going to have a stationary target in front of him on Saturday night in the form of Canelo’s older brother Ricardo Alvarez.

I’ve seen Ricardo fight on a number of times, and he brings it. I can’t see him backing away from Thompson on Saturday night, said Richard Schaefer.

Molina’s promoter Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions said to the LA Times “He’s being processed out of jail as of now, and I’m being told the fight was on.”

It’s unclear what the arrest warrant was for, but what is known is that the warrant came from another state.
