Saraki and CCT: Legislators lambaste EFCC

Saraki and CCT: Legislators lambaste EFCC

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Babajimi Benson representing Ikorodu and Hon. Ossai Nicholas Ndukwa of Delta, has urged anti-graft agencies in the country to apply more diligence in the investigation and prosecution of corruption cases.

In an interview with the Galaxy's television, the lawmakers stressed that there was need for anti-corruption agencies to be meticulous to avoid waste of public funds.

The call stemmed from the failure of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to establish a case against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, over alleged false declaration of assets.

They condemned the idea of media trials against accused persons, urging the EFCC to always prepare its witnesses before proceeding on any prosecution.

It would be recalled that the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) sitting in Abuja had on Wednesday discharged and acquitted Bukola Saraki from the 18 count charges of false declaration of assets brought against him by the federal government in September 2015.
