Edo Guber: Court Dismiss Suit Challenging Ize-Iyamu's Eligibility

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has struck out a suit by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking the disqualification of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu from taking part in the September 19 Edo governorship election.

The ground of the suit is that Ize-Iyamu was not a validly nominated candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC.

In the judgment delivered Tuesday, Justice Ahmed Mohammed said the suit has become a mere academic exercise owing to the change in circumstances following the conduct of the election which the APC lost.

Justice Mohammed further noted that the suit is unnecessary, as Ize-Iyamu had not challenged the outcome of the election at the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

Meanwhile, two prosecution witnesses have been cross-examined in the case of alleged certificate forgery levelled against Godwin Obaseki by the APC and Williams Edobor a member of the party.

The witnesses are Samuel Omale of the Legal Department in INEC Headquarters Abuja and Emmanuel Balogun, an associate professor, Department of Economics of the University of Lagos.

Hearing on the case has been adjourned till Wednesday 30 for the plaintiffs to close their case and for the defendants to begin theirs.
