Buhari Orders Defence Chief To Dismantle Military Check Points Nationwide

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the chief of defense staff Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh to dismantle all military checkpoints and blockades across the country.

The directive is coming after several years of suffering by the citizens due to serial military checkpoints and road blocks mounted since the advent of insurgency and terrorism in the country.

Addressing state house correspondents after a meeting between officials of the ministry of defense and the president at the presidential villa, Monday, the permanent secretary of the ministry Aliyu Ismail said the directive was to ease challenges encountered due to the military presence.

He said the Nigeria police was also directed to take over its normal role of maintaining internal security.

The official further stated that the meeting also focused on the ongoing war against the Boko haram sect saying the president gave words of support for the onslaught.

He said the military is now better motivated to do the fight.

President Jonathan has held series of meeting both within and outside the country to ensure extinction of the dreaded sect.

The renewed boost in the morale of the soldiers by the federal government may quicken their end.
