BENUE IDPS: IOM TO BUILD WATER TREATMENT PLANT FOR NAKA IDPS, HOST COMMUNITY.
The International Organisation for Migration(IOM) has plan to construct a Water treatment Plant to purify raw water from Naka Dam for the people of Naka and Internally Displaced Persons taking refuge within the community in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue state.
IOM, head of Sub office, who visited Naka community to inspect the Dam site and to locate where the treatment plant will be sited with the collaboration of Benue State government and the local community, inspected a broken down water treatment plant provided by Victim Support Programmer in company of the council chairman.
She also met with the IDP women and Young girls on the issues of sexual and gender base violence in the IDP camp, called for frequent mother, daughter dialogue. The representative of Sema, says government is planning to build a skill acquisition center to assist the IDPs particularly women and girls.
On the need to sustain dialogue between mother and daughter, IOM created a cooking competition to help each households in the IDP camp, to encourage communication to help the girl child speak out where there are cases of violence within the camp. The women thanked IOM, SEMA and other partners for the effort. Meanwhile the head of IOM sub office in Makurdi, assures that the water Reticulation Plant will be executed within two months.
