Boko Haram: Court Refuses to Grant Bail to Kogi Versity Lecturer,Two others
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday refused bail application to Dr. Mohammed Nazeef Yunus, a lecturer at the Kogi State University, Ayingba who is facing trial on terrorism charges.
Yunus along with two other suspects were arrested by the State Security Services (SSS) in Kogi State on 30th October last year, following their alleged involvement with Boko Haram sect.
In a ruling, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, said it would not be in the interest of justice to release the accused persons at this stage of their trial.
Kolawole however, noted that no court of law would turn a blind eye on a criminal matter of this nature especially now that the upsurge in Boko Haram killing is on the increase in the country.
He therefore ordered for an accelerated hearing on the matter while saying that the suspects should be remanded in Kuje prison and should appear in court in the next adjourned date, on 19 of April.
The suspects were arraigned for an act of terrorism, conspiracy, illegal possession of fire arms contrary to sections 1 subsection 2b and 17 of the terrorism prevention act 2013 as amended.
Effort made to get the response of the counsels to the applicant and the prosecutor proved abortive as they refused to grant interview.
