We will treat IMN activities as terrorists henceforth - IGP

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has said that any person engaged or associated in-manners that could advance the activities of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria, shall be treated as a terrorist, an enemy of the State, and shall be brought to justice within the context of the Terrorism Act. 


IGP was speaking at a strategic meeting with senior officers held at the force headquarters in Abuja, Tuesday.

Adamu explained the order was against that the proscription of IMN by the federal government.

He said the proscription implies that all forms of procession or protest by the IMN is now illegal and thus banned.

The police boss said that the activities of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria led by Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky has over time evolved to constitute a grave threat to national security, law and order, socio-religious harmony and good governance a reason for which it was proscribed.

The stakeholders meeting according to him will review the Islamic movement’s engagement of terror tactics and other general security situations, with a view to emplacing appropriate action plans that are targeted at addressing these threats.

The IGP  said the force will commence the process of implementing Community Policing concept which would involve citizens in identifying and prioritizing prevalent communal security threats as they affect their localities.

He charged all police commanders to redouble their efforts in ensuring that the lives and property are protected at all times.
