We make ends meet for our families- Teen hawkers
With less than two weeks to the resumption of schools in Delta state for the next academic session, children hawking along the busy Enerhen junction in Uvwie local government area of the state have reemphasized the urgent need for them continue their street hawking.
The teen hawkers claimed their efforts on the Delta roads have been their only means of livelihood, adding that they raise their school fees from street trading.
The teen hawkers attributed the roadside hawking to enable them help their parents pay their school fees.
While exclusively expressing their ordeal to Galaxy television, the hawkers revealed that most of their peers had in time past, been knocked down by hit-and-run vehicles. This they claimed was as a result of the risk encountered by them on a daily basis.
Also speaking, some parents condemn the act by parents who allow their children to sell along the road despite the economic hardship.
Meanwhile, the large presence of children hawking along the popular Enerhen junction in Warri despite the state government clampdown of street hawking a year ago, shows the inability of the state task-force to implement government policies effectively.
