Southwest Commissioners for Agriculture Charge Governors to Strengthen Amotekun
Commissioners for Agriculture in the Southwest have appealed to the Governors in the region to strengthen the Amotekun Corps in order to confront the renewed onslaught on farmers by working in conjunction with the existing security agencies.
The Commissioners said this in a Communiqué issued at the end of an interactive session facilitated by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria.
The meeting equally called on security agencies not to relent in their efforts in apprehending the criminal elements responsible for incessant attacks and economic sabotage of the region’s agricultural economy.
They maintained that no effort should be spared in protecting the lives and properties of farmers as farmers’ lives matter adding that everything must be done to ensure that farmers are safe and can return to the farms.
The states equally agreed to work together in order to simplify access to land in the region for would-be investors in Agriculture adding that they will continue to share ideas on how to attract more youth into Agriculture by copying models that have worked in some sister states within the region.
