Reps Warn Polytechnics For Not Honoring Their Invitations
The House of Representatives Committee on Polytechnics and Other Higher Technical Education has expressed disappointment over the lack of accountability displayed by five federal polytechnics that failed to honor its invitation for a budget performance review meeting.
The Committee Chairman, Hon Fuad Laguda, issued a stern warning , naming the Federal Polytechnic Nekede (Imo State), Federal Polytechnic Ohodo (Enugu State), Federal Polytechnic Oko (Anambra State), Federal Polytechnic Akanu Ibiam (Ebonyi State), and Federal Polytechnic Isouchi (Abia State) as the institutions that failed to appear.
The chairman described the incident as unprecedented, stating, "This is the first time the committee has seen such blatant disregard for an invitation from the National Assembly. He particularly criticized the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Isouchi, who attended without documents or a management team, calling it unacceptable.
The Committee emphasized its constitutional authority under Sections 89 and 129, as well as the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges Act), to summon individuals and enforce compliance with its directives.
Highlighting its commitment to oversight, Hon Laguda referenced recent engagements with federal polytechnics in Bauchi, Kaltungo, Kauran Namoda, and Bali, as well as earlier meetings with institutions in Nasarawa and Plateau States.
He reaffirmed the Committee’s dedication to ensuring accountability and transparency in budget implementation
