Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have expressed deep concern on the level of insecurity in the state calling on the state government and security agencies to rise to the occasion.

Recall that three foreigners were kidnapped at different locations within one week in Ibadan the state capital while there have been reported cases of corpses being dumped at strategic junctions also in the state capital.

Speaking under matters of urgent public importance, a cross-section of lawmakers decried the spate of insecurity in Ibadan and other parts of the state stressing that something urgent must be done to address the situation.

The lawmakers who expressed dismay at the number of policemen on the streets further called on the state government and security agencies to be at their best towards ensuring the security of lives and property in Oyo state and beyond.

In another development, Governor Seyi Makinde has sought the permission of the State House of Assembly to extend the tenure of caretaker Chairmen of local government in the state by another three months.

The Governor, in a letter read on the floor of the Assembly by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogindoyin requested the permission of the lawmakers to renew the tenure of office of the 68 caretaker chairmen whose appointment will expire on 19th December 2020.

The Governor hinged his decision on the need to avoid a vacuum in the governance of the local government councils.

While ruling over the request of the governor, the speaker, Rt. hon. Adebo Ogundoyin disclosed that the house will deliberate on the tenure elongation of the 68 caretaker chairmen this Friday.

Also at the plenary, the lawmakers considered the third reading of the Oyo State Fire Service Agency Bill, 2020 as well as the third reading of the Local Government Staff (Pension Funds) Bill, 2020.
