Over 15 Confirmed Dead in Ikoyi Collapsed Building

More than 15 people have been confirmed dead, at the collapsed 21 storey Building at Gerrard road, Ikoyi, Lagos state.

Two rescued victims were taken to the General hospital in Lagos and are currently receiving treatment.

All hands are on deck to rescue people buried under the collapsed 21 storey building. According to an eyewitness report, over 40 workers are buried under the rubbles of the building, including the owner of the building who was disclosed by workers to be called Mr Femi.

The numbers of dead victims keep rising and fear and worry form the faces of people who have beloved ones trapped under the rubbles on the site.

Lots of security and safety personnel are present at the building, keeping people away including journalists, from the scene of the collapse.

Questions arise about the method used by the rescue agencies and why they keep volunteers away from helping them.

The cause of the collapse is not yet known, but the Nigerian government has been charged to follow up on constructions to ensure guidelines are been followed and to provide adequate testing laboratories for building.

The commissioner of police, Hakeem Odumosu promises due investigation would be done once all victims have been rescued from the building. However, prior to the building collapse, some of the workers had noticed patched up cracks on the pillars of the building.
