Oil spillage: Delta community appeal for urgent action
Residents of Gana community at Agbara-Otor in Ughelli North local government area of Delta state have appealed to the state government over oil spill from oil multinational platform Heritage, which has affected their farmland and water in the community.
The residents led by their leaders protested at the gate of the company for hours as security operatives shut the gate when they could no longer control the people.
Speaking on the oil spill after taking newsmen round affected areas, the community leaders said it has affected the entire community and they cannot cook to avoid fire outbreak
A visit to the community shows the effect of crude oil in the community well which is their source of drinking water and their farmland, as the legal practitioner to the community said they have not benefited from the company since inception.
The community leaders threatened not to allow the oil multinational resume operation until they sign a memorandum of understanding with them concerning the oil spill.
