NSE urges Ogun Government to complement FG’s power initiatives

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Abeokuta Branch has called on the Ogun State Government to take proactive steps in complementing initiatives of the Federal Government aimed at improving power infrastructure in the state.

The NSE in a statement signed by the Abeokuta Branch chairman, Engr Olumayowa Idowu, noted that the call had become imperative in response to the recently announced $500 million investment by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which targets the enhancement of power infrastructure along the Ogun-Lagos industrial corridor.

The significant investment, announced by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, focuses on strengthening the transmission network in key industrial areas such as Agbara, Sagamu, and Mowe.

The initiative is also viewed as a vital step toward resolving the ongoing power supply challenges in these regions.

Idowu urged the Ogun state government to collaborate with gas pipeline operators to strengthen the infrastructure supplying gas to power plants and industries within Ogun State.

He emphasized that ensuring a steady and reliable supply of gas is crucial for maximizing the benefits of the upgraded power transmission infrastructure and sustaining industrial productivity.

While advocating for local content in the execution of power projects, Idowu stressed the importance of involving local engineers in line with Executive Order 5.
